Ideas for Growth Session 5: Governance, Accountability and Political Economy
The Ideas for Growth Session on Governance, Accountability and Political Economy focused on the topic of community driven development and was chaired by Eliana la Ferrara (Bocconi University). Three speakers gave presentations. The first presentation was given by Rachel Glennester (MIT) and was entitled ‘Reshaping institutions: Evidence on external aid and local collective action’. The second was given by Jim Fearon (Stanford) and was entitled ‘Democratic institutions and collective action capacity: Results from a field experiment in post-conflict Liberia’. The third was given by Eric Werker (Harvard) and was entitled ‘Community-driven development in Sierra Leone and Liberia’. Vijayendra Rao (World Bank) participated in the discussion.
