Michele Di Maio is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Naples "Parthenope" (Italy). He received my PhD from the University of Siena (Italy) in 2006 and the Laurea (Master) from Bocconi University in 2001.

Trained as an international trade economist, his current research topics are the economics of conflict (Palestine and Afghanistan), child labour, and industrial policies in developing countries, especially Africa. Since May 2010 he is also a Senior Affiliate of the Households in Conflict Network (HiCN). He has worked as a consultant on issues related to industrial development and international trade for CEPAL, IPD Initiative, UNECA, UNIDO, and UNCTAD, as well as the IGC.

Survey of the literature on successful strategies and practices for export promotion by developing countries

Increasing export ranks among the highest priorities of any government in both developed and developing countries. The underling idea is that favoring domestic export is conducive to economic growth. Export promotion policies (EPPs) are the sets of policies and practices aimed at affecting directly or indirectly export in a given country. This paper explores a number of strategies with a view to informing policy choices in Sierra Leone.

Sierra Leone’s National Export Strategy: Implementation Issues and Recommendations

This report concentrates on the development of an overall strategy for promoting export growth in Sierra Leone. The government of Sierra Leone is strongly motivated to increase net export: as the country‘s products are currently uncompetitive in the international markets, and it is highly dependent on foreign products in a number of important sectors.
