Urban Myanmar workshop

Past Event Yangon Cities and Cities that Work

IGC Myanmar hosted a workshop on 23 February to present the policy brief “Urban Myanmar” and to outline an agenda for urban research and policy issues in the country.

The event, co-sponsored by the Myanmar Development Institute (MDI, a new government- affiliated think tank), brought together researchers from IGC and local government stakeholders. The sessions involved presentations of IGC-funded research as well as presentations made by other government or donor stakeholders.

Government stakeholders from the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), the Yangon Regional Government, the Department for Urban and Housing Development (DUHD), and more participated in this workshop.

The IGC also welcomed the participation of Tony Venables, to discuss the importance of cities for growth, as well as other researchers to present on their Yangon-specific work, notably Mari Tanaka and a team from LSE Cities led by Philipp Rode, among others.
