Press Release State

On 13 March 2018, David Cameron testified before the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on the need for the international community to change how it delivers aid to fragile states. His testimony previewed some of the key recommendations from the LSE-Oxford Commission on State Fragility, Growth and Development, which he is chairing.

Speaking before Committee Chairman Sen. Bob Corker, Ranking Member Sen. Bob Menendez, and other senators, Mr Cameron outlined the nature of the fragile states problem, what is and is not working in the current approach to fragile states, and other issues the Fragility Commission is examining. These issues include the need for donors to back national priorities, governance considerations in aid delivery, timing of holding elections, and the role of international finance institutions.
