Dr Abdi Ali is the Head of the State Fragility initiative (SFi), a team dedicated to working on issues of state fragility and with governments of fragile and transitioning countries. He leads the initiative strategy and ensures its overall effectiveness at national, regional and global scale, including liaising closely with SFi funders. His overall responsibilities include the continued quality of the initiative work, including national-level engagements with policymakers of countries undergoing pivotal moments, the DFI Fragility Forum, programme of work on scaling up investments in energy access in fragile settings, and thematic leadership on state fragility issues with the wider IGC.
Dr Ali has a significant professional experience in both academia and the public sector. Prior to his current role at the IGC, Dr Ali served as the Executive Director and Chief Economist of the Central Bank of Somalia where he led the Monetary, Financial and Regulatory Policy Group of the Bank and was a member of the Bank’s Senior Management Team.
Dr Ali holds an MSc in Development Economics and a PhD in Economics from the University of Manchester.
