Hazel Gray's interests concern the political economy of development in Africa, industrial policy and industrialisation, state-business relations, institutions and economic performance, and socialism and post-socialism in Africa. Her regional focus is on East Africa and she has been researching and working in Tanzania since 2000. She worked for three years as an ODI Fellow economist at the Ministry of Finance in Tanzania. She has been involved in policy work with national and international development agencies on issues of economic transformation, institutions and public financial management.
