Until 2009 Olle was a Special Adviser in the International Trade and Commodities Division of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). In this role he led research projects and coordinated major UNCTAD policy reports. He has worked on analyses of commodity markets, including both agricultural and mineral commodities, and has for the past 14 years been responsible for UNCTAD’s annual report on the world iron ore market. Prior to this he was the Chief, Minerals, Metals and Energy Section - UNCTAD, Geneva, and was responsible for economic analysis of mineral and energy markets and for technical cooperation work. He also worked on projects concerning the local economic impact of mining in Chile, Indonesia, Peru and South Africa.

He teaches part of the Advanced Course in Commodities Trade at the University of Geneva.
