Jemal Ahmed (Ph.D.) is an assistant professor at the Ethiopian Institute of Water Resources (EIWR) of the Addis Ababa University (AAU).  Jemal has also lectured for more than a decade at the Department of Economics, Mekelle University. He received his first degree in economics from Bahir Dar University and his second degree from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark and the University of Padova in Italy. Jemal completed his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics from University of Nigeria in 2016. In addition to lecturing, Jemal is involved in different research, consultancy, and community service activities. His research has so far focused on impact evaluation of development interventions such resettlement program, watershed conservation measures, agricultural extension services , agricultural growth program (AGP) as well as weather index insurance; innovative financing options for sustainable natural resource and watershed conservation measure; estimating of the economic value of ecosystem services of wetlands and other natural resources; feasibility study for payment for ecosystem services interventions; hydro-economics for Ethiopia, among others. Some of the organizations Jemal has worked with include the World Resources Institute (WRI), the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), the Policy Study Institute (PSI), and different government Ministries and Agencies. Jemal has also travelled to different parts of the world for research and study purposes including Denmark, Italy, South Sudan, Nigeria, South Africa, Malaysia, and Costa Rica.
