Pramila Krishnan is Professor of Development Economics at the University of Oxford. She began her academic life as an econometrician, trained at the Indian Statistical Institute, before moving on to work on the economic analysis of issues in developing and emerging economies. She uses microeconomic and statistical techniques to explore a wide variety of applied economic questions ranging from behaviour towards risk, topics in trade and political economy to more recent work on firms. Her research focuses on settings in Africa and South Asia, including Ethiopia, Uganda, India, and Sri Lanka. At Oxford, she lectures on quantitative methods and topics in development economics to students in the MSc in Development Economics and supervises DPhil. students. She is an active member of the University’s Centre for the Study of African Economies based in the Department of Economics. She is a Director and Board Member of the African Economic Research Consortium (Nairobi, Kenya) and Editor of the Journal of African Economies.
