Sher Afghan Asad is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Lahore University of Management Sciences and Visiting Assistant Professor at Iowa State University. His research spans behavioral and public economics, with a focus on taxation, market frictions, and discrimination in developing countries. He combines experimental and empirical methods to study how individuals, firms, and governments make decisions, with a particular interest in improving tax compliance and addressing inequities in digital and offline markets.

Sher Afghan has advised a range of public institutions in Pakistan—including the Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authorities, the Punjab Agriculture Department, and the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department—on evidence-based policy reforms. Sher is also a Fellow Mahbub ul Haq Research Centre and has served as a consultant to the World Bank, GIZ, and FCDO. He holds a PhD in Economics from Iowa State University and an MSc in Economics from LUMS.
