About
Over the last decade, Bangladesh’s declining poverty has been coupled with transformation of the economy base from agriculture to the manufacturing and service sectors. Since 2009, the IGC Bangladesh Country Programme has partnered with the government, research institutions, and the private sector to support this growth in infrastructure, firms capabilities, and state effectiveness in particular. These projects have included research on worker well-being and productivity in the garment sector, electronic filing by district governments, the impact of new traffic infrastructure on mobility, and the effects of large-scale rural-urban temporary migration. IGC Bangladesh projects on migration, sanitation, and ultra-poor programmes have informed scale-up and policy at the national and global levels.
IGC Bangladesh is currently hosted at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD). The Country Programme has collaborated with key policymakers and senior government officials in the Prime Minister’s Office, National Board of Revenue (NBR), Ministry of Commerce, and Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) and has established partnerships with civil society organisations such as BRAC, universities, and autonomous research institutions such as the Institute of Microfinance (InM).
