About
Bangladesh’s impressive growth story of consistent high growth and falling poverty levels is facing new challenges in the form of persistent pressure on balance of payments and underutilised labour force coupled with increasing pollution and gridlocked cities. Since 2009, the IGC Bangladesh Country Programme has partnered with the government, research institutions, and the private sector to support Bangladesh in facing obstacles to growth. These projects have included research on worker well-being in the face of shocks, government revenue mobilization by focusing on direct taxes, the impact of new traffic infrastructure on mobility, and the effects of large-scale rural-urban temporary migration. IGC Bangladesh aims to continue working on issues like increasing tax revenue, abating pollution, and ensuring safe and efficient e-mobility.
IGC Bangladesh is currently hosted at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD). The Country Programme has collaborated with key policymakers and senior government officials in the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources (MoPEMR) and Department of Environment (DoE) and has established partnerships with universities, and research institutions such as CPD, PRI, and RAPID.
