Bangladesh

IGC Bangladesh nurtures high-quality independent research in partnership with local policymakers. Our research focuses include pollution oversight, alternative deployment of solar energy, data access for citizens, and public service delivery. We welcome new research ideas addressing policy challenges in the country.

About

Bangladesh’s impressive growth story of high growth and falling poverty levels is facing challenges. These come in the form of persistent pressure on the balance of payments, a banking sector crisis, some of the worst air pollution in the world, power shortages, and, perhaps most importantly, the absence of efficient institutions.

Since 2009, IGC Bangladesh has partnered with the government, research institutions, and the private sector to support Bangladesh in facing obstacles to growth. Our energy dashboard presents data on power production and capacity utilisation in a format accessible to all citizens. Our brick kiln tracker, designed in collaboration with the Department of Environment, identifies the most polluting kilns in the country. Other research projects look at a range of issues, from the gains of doing business with multinational corporations to the impact of traffic infrastructure in cities.

IGC Bangladesh is committed to working with policymakers to identify research opportunities, and with local and international partners to generate research aimed at finding solutions to real life policy problems.
