Mozambique’s growth was high for two decades but has declined since 2015 due to debt and natural disasters, which was exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Since 2010, the IGC Mozambique Country Programme has worked with government policymakers and the research community on projects to inform government strategy. These projects include building trust in local institutions and reducing radicalisation risk in Cabo Delgado, price modeling and analysing value chains for maize, poultry, cotton, and pigeon peas, and efforts through the years to push for improvements in the quality of supply of primary health care by strengthening the capacity of clinics to manage patient flows,supporting the national strategy for financial inclusion through work on mobile money and savings. Going forward, IGC Mozambique’s scope of work will expand to include climate change, electrification, and infrastructure.

The IGC office in Mozambique is located at the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF). The Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD) has been the IGC’s direct counterpart in Mozambique, through National Directorate of Economic Policies and Development. The IGC has also been working closely with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, through the Institute of Cereals of Mozambique, and along with Ministry of Health, through the National Institute of Health. These partners have played a key role in the establishment of the IGC in the country.
